1-Year vs. 3-Year Rabies Tags

Veterinarians have the option of giving pets a 1-year or 3-year rabies vaccine, but what they might not realize, is that they need the correct tag material to match! 3-year rabies tags need to last longer on a pet’s collar, so thicker or stronger material is required.

1-year rabies tags can use our standard .050 aluminum. For 3-year rabies tags we recommend .064 aluminum (which is thicker than .050) or a stainless-steel rabies tag.

Check out what can happen if you try to use a .050 aluminum for a 3-year tag. Over time, the material will eventually stretch and become difficult to read from wear, and rubbing against the animal’s fur.

Flag of Tags

While tags are meant for identification, they can also be used for art! We decorated our office with an American Flag made entirely out of tags with adhesive backing. Some of our customers use our tags as keychains, or for crafts with kids, and more.

Made in America

Our flag of tags is made red, white and blue aluminum material. The rectangles our style 14 tags are 1-1/4” x 4-7/8”. The stars are our style 363.

To help get you ready for 4th of July tomorrow, here are some fun facts about the American flag.

  • Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the American flag on June 14, 1777.
  • For a while, the U.S. added stripes and stars to the flag when welcoming new states. At one point, the flag has 15 stripes and 15 stars. As the country continued to add new states, they decided to go back to the 13 stripes for the original 13 colonies.
  • The colors of the flag have important meanings. Red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence and blue represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice.
  • When the flag can no longer be repaired or used, it must be destroyed in a dignified matter, such as burning.

National Band & Tag will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, for 4th of July. Business will resume on Thursday July 5th.
