Custom Warehouse Identification Tags

National Band & Tag is your go-to company for all your custom warehouse identification needs. Large warehouses are always in need of proper asset management and inventory management. We can produce custom-designed tags in multiple types of materials to meet your specific ID needs. Check out our materials, and examples from customers below.

METAL TAGS

Our heavy-duty metal tags come in a variety of materials to meet your warehouse’s environment. Stainless Steel tags are available for environments with extreme heat or cold, or that deal with harsh chemicals. Colored Aluminum is available for when color coding is necessary, or UV Stable Black Aluminum is available for a high contrasting, easy to read tag. Hole sizes and locations are customizable, so you can have 2 – 4 holes for attaching to a shelving unit, or 1 hole at the top to hang the tag. All of our tags can be customized with logos, numbers, text, barcodes, etc. For barcodes, we offer a 2D Data matrix, Linear Code 39 or Code 128, or a QR Code.

The tag below is an example from a customer who needed an extra-large barcode so they could scan the barcode on the floor while sitting on the fork-lift. This makes picking inventory off the shelf easier and faster for them by not having to get on and off the forklift to scan it out. (Style #14, 3″ x 5″, 2D Data Matrix Barcode, UV Stable Aluminum).

PLASTIC TAGS

Plastic tags are an option if you need a temporary ID solution, or something colorful and flexible. We offer .020″ vinyl plastic that is thin and can be nailed or stapled. We also offer a thicker, but still flexible polyurethane material in select styles. Color options vary by style number.

The tags below are an example from a customer that used these flexible barcoded tags to staple to a wooden pallet. (Style #144VLE, 1″ x 3″, yellow vinyl snap-off tag).

BLANK TAGS / WRITE-ON TAGS FOR ON-SITE IDENTIFICATION

Any of our metal or plastic tags can be produced blank so that you can engrave them yourself. We also offer Write-On Tags, which can be engraved with a ball-point pen or sharp object. These methods are better for warehouse management that requires quick, on-site, identification. For your blank tags, we offer a Battery Powered Precision Engraver with Diamond Tip Bit (Style R1580) and Hardened Steel Hand Stamps, gothic style, letters, and numbers for hand stamping tags (Styles 1571 & 1572).

Upgraded Well Permit Tags

New, Improved, QR Coded Well Permit Tags

Well Tags need to last outside in harsh environments year-round to make sure wells are properly identified. The old DNREC Well Permit Tag featured on top is plain aluminum and is stamped. The Well Permit Tag on the bottom is UV Stable Black Aluminum. On this tag, we use a laser to etch the text, which creates a highly visible white text on the black background, which won’t fade away. The new UV Stable Black Aluminum tag has a QR Code on the tag. This allows anyone with a smartphone to scan the QR Code and go to the Department of Natural Resources’ website.

Well permit tags with a QR code

Every well is required to have a Well Tag (in most states), to ensure a clean and adequate supply of underground drinking water. There are programs in place to prevent contamination of aquifers from improper well construction, drilling, or abandonment. Before drilling, a licensed well driller must first obtain a permit. The unique ID number on the Well Tag makes obtaining important information about the well easier.

Our Well Permit Tags are customizable in shape, material, and layout, so you can get the exact identification you need. We offer custom slot sizes for your tags so you can strap these tags onto the well. Available slot sizes are 1/8″ X 9/16″ (for 1/2″ strapping), 1/4″ X 7/8″ (for 3/4″ strapping) and 1/4″ X 1-1/8″ (for 1″ strapping). Click here to view more samples of Well Permit Tags.

Increase Your Barcode Readability: NEW “Frosted” Background for Stainless Steel Barcoded Tags

Looking for higher readability in your stainless steel barcoded tags? Our new laser machine allows us to create a “frosted” white background around the barcode that removes the shine from stainless steel, allowing for a higher contrast. Higher contrasting barcodes read better, easier, and faster! All stainless steel and plain aluminum tags that have a barcode with automatically get the frosted background. Frosting is also available around text and logos, or to create a blank square upon request.

These frosted barcoded stainless-steel tags are useful for industries such as food processing, medical, laboratory, chemical, textile, and petroleum. In harsh environments such as these, stainless steel is necessary because of its non-corrosive aspects. Stainless steel tags with frosted barcodes will continue to scan and read for years.

Check out these samples below of how current customers have used frosted backgrounds on their tags:

Asset Labels

Asset Labels are custom laser etched and custom shaped with a laser. These heavy-duty labels are made from a military-grade 3M™ 7847 polyacrylic matte black stock. Labels can be cut to any shape or size (up to 4” x 7” inches). Each label can be customized with logos, graphics, barcodes (linear, 2D data matrix, or QR Code), text, and sequential or custom numbering.

This material is great for barcoded labels because of the high contrast, easy readability, durability, and flexibility. Some of the high-performance features of these labels include:

  • Rugged durability
  • Ability to conform to curved or uneven surfaces
  • Resistant to thermal shock and extreme temperatures
  • Resistant to sunlight exposure
  • Resistant to chemicals

Make sure that all your equipment, assets, and inventory are properly identified, tracked, and accounted for. Serialized asset tags will help with asset and inventory management. Send us a sketch of the label you need to [email protected] along with the quantity for a free quote.

The Round Tag that Meets All Your Needs

NB&T’s most popular style of tag the # 137 a 1-¼” inch round tag that can be used for multiple applications across numerous industries. Check out a few of the top applications we see for this style of tag.

Crematory Tags:

COMPANY TYPES: Crematoriums, Mortuaries, Funeral Homes, Pet Cremations

USE: 304 Stainless Steel stamped tags are used to identify both human and pet remains as they go through the cremation process to ensure proper identification at all times. 304 Stainless Steel tags will not melt in the crematorium, so they are able to go in the fire and stay with the remains.

Tree Tags:

COMPANY TYPES: Landscape Architecture Firms, Plant Ecologist, U.S. Forest Service, Tree and Lawn Care Services, Lumber Production Companies, Arborist Consultants, Tree & Stump Removal, Arborist/Forestry Supply Stores

USE: There are many types of tree tags available, but a stamped #137 is popular for the above companies because their main goal is to number and identify specific trees. The trees could be numbered for a multitude of reasons, from labeling diseased trees, trees to cut down or save, trees to trim and more. A plain aluminum 137 is durable enough to last outside, while also being discreetly visible on the tree.

Dog & Cat Tags:

COMPANY TYPES: Veterinarians, Municipalities, Cities, Counties, Humane Societies, Animal Shelters, Kennels, Animal Hospitals, and Clinics.

USE: Rabies Tags indicate that an animal has had its rabies vaccine. Cities and counties use License Tags to show that your pet has been licensed in that area. General dog and cat I.D. tags are used by animal shelters, humane societies, SPCA’s, etc. to I.D. the animals in that company’s care.

Survey Tags:

COMPANY TYPES: Surveying Companies, Survey and Mapping Equipment Suppliers,

USE: These tags have a hole in the middle for a nail to go through so that it can be attached to the ground, trees, and other objects for surveying and mapping points of land. Usually, the surveyor’s license number is stamped on the tag.

Pole Tags:

COMPANY TYPES: Power Pole Inspection Companies, Utility Companies, Wood Pole Manufacturers

USE: Pole Tags are used on power poles, telecommunication poles, and other wood poles to identify that they have been inspected. Pole Tags can range from a small, simple stamped tag with the year on it, to a large barcoded tag that makes inspection easier by scanning the barcode.

Valve & Pipe Tags:

COMPANY TYPES: Chemical, Petroleum, Gas, Utility Companies

USE: Valve & Pipe Tags identify the flow of what is inside the pipes and relay important information and identification at the point of need. These tags help reduce pipe related accidents and pass safety inspections. #137 is popular for this because it is a visible size, but not in the way, and can dangle off the valve.

What would you use the style #137 – 1 ¼” inch round tag for?

Which Scanner is Best for your Barcoded Tag?

National Band & Tag specializes in barcoded tags of all kinds, including, but not limited to: wing bands, small animal ear tags, metal plates, asset tags, dog tags, and labels. To go with your barcoded tags, you will need a scanner to read it, unless you are using a QR Code, then you will need to download a QR Code scanning app on your phone.

NB&T offers a few scanner options, but you may want to try researching scanners online that will fit your need. For example, scanners that are out in the field will need to stand up to dirt, and being cleaned often, while a scanner in a hospital may need to be purchased from a specific vendor. Do you want a mounted scanner or a portable Bluetooth one? Do you have the right scanner for your barcoded tag? A 1D scanner will not work with your 2D barcoded tag. NB&T offers 1D linear barcodes, 2D Data Matrix barcodes, and QR Codes.

Why Food Traceability in the Supply Chain is Important

When you’re sitting down to eat dinner, do you ever wonder if your food is safe to eat? The CDC estimates that each year, roughly 48 million people get sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die from foodborne diseases. Food traceability is becoming even more important so outbreaks can be tracked down faster and more efficiently from fork to farm.

food processing diagram

National Band & Tag helps keep food safe with proper identification to make traceability easier. For the first part of the food production chain, we offer ear tags for livestock while they are on the farm. For the processing and distribution part of the supply chain, we off stainless-steel barcoded tags that are safe for use on machines, equipment, pallets, and more.

Identification and barcodes allow the CDC to track when people get sick, what store they bought the food from, what distributor and processor the store got the meat from, and what farm it all originated from. This then allows the CDC to determine where the outbreak started, and create recalls, thus stopping more people from getting sick.

How To: Use a QR Code for Educational Walking Trails

Are you looking to use QR (Quick Response) Codes to create an educational walking trail in your museum, arboretum, botanical garden, school, or park? QR Codes are a great way to provide more information about an item by sending people to a website. NB&T is here to help guide you through the process of getting your website into a QR code and onto a tag.

barcode scan

Follow these easy steps to complete your educational walking trail and get people scanning your QR Coded tags!

Prep your QR Code Information:

  1. Determine what you want to have a QR Code on (plants, statues, trees, posts, memorial sites, exhibits etc.)
  2. Create and design a separate web page for everything you want to have a QR Code on. (Ask your webmaster for assistance with steps #2 and #3 if needed).

Example:
Tree 1 – QR Code goes to www.tree1.com
Tree 2 – QR Code goes to www.tree2.com

3. Optional – For best scanning of a QR Code, use redirects for extremely long URLs.

Design Your Tag:

  1. Browse through our website to determine the tag style, size, material, and hole size you want.
  2. Sketch up a mockup, or layout of how you want your tag to look, along with any other information you want, such as company name, logo, item name, year, etc.
  3. Send info from #4 and #5, along with quantity of tags you need to [email protected] for a free price quote.
  4. Once ready to order – send your complete tag info to us using our Data Transfer Instructions. It is important to send us your info correctly so none of your tags are off. We will turn your web page URL into a QR Code!

Setting up Your Walking Trail:

  1. Set up all your tags in a visible place where people can easily scan them.
  2. Encourage people to use their smart phones to scan the tag for more information on the item they are looking at.
  3. Maintenance – you can change the info on your web pages as much as you need. As long as the URL doesn’t change, you won’t need to replace your QR Coded tag.
Send us pictures of your completed walking trail!

Example: NC Coastal Reserve

nature trail tag educational trail tag with QR Code

  1. Determined they had 22 places throughout the walking trail on the reserve that needed a QR Code.
  2. Created their 22 web pages that in this case, held audio files.
  3. This customer used tinyurl.com for their redirects.
  4. They chose a style 14 tag, 3” x 4” inches, in UV stable black aluminum material, with an 1/8” inch hole on the top and bottom of the tag.
  5. They decided they wanted for their tag layout the QR Code first, then “Audio Trail Interpretation Station” the URL, and their company name smaller at the bottom.
  6. Sent the info to us for a quote.
  7. Sent their data transfer Excel sheet to us using the correct format.tiny url pic
  8. Used screws to hang their tags into posts along the trail.
  9. Promoted scanning their new tags through social media.
