What to expect when doing business with NB&T

As a U.S. manufacturer, we custom make all our products to order. Only limited amounts of tags are stocked on the shelves through our quick ship programs.

After you call, email or send a quote request through the website, a sales representative will send you a quote in 2-4 business days. Once you approve the quote, it becomes an order, the credit card is run (unless you have established an open account with us) and the order is placed. A second sales rep then checks the order for accuracy. You will receive an acknowledgment (receipt) from your sales rep. The amount of time your order spends in the office can vary depending on the time it takes to receive quote approval or payment. After that, your order is sent to the factory.

Once in the factory, orders are scheduled to a press and are put in line to be produced. Standard orders that have no extra options added to them are usually in the factory between 2-4 weeks. Less popular tag shapes and special tag options can add additional weeks onto to the production time, these options include:

  • Paint Fill
  • Strip Packing
  • Links Attaching
  • Flat (Skin) Packing
  • Wet Tumbling
  • Wires Attached

After the tags are produced they are then sent to the shipping department. If you look at your acknowledgement, there will be an anticipated ship date that will always be a Friday date. Your order will be shipped out any time that week, with the Friday date being the absolute latest.

The amount of time your order spends in the office or factory may change during our busy season (October – December). During these months, we always recommend placing your order as soon as possible to make sure you get your tags on time.

If you have any questions, our sales representatives are happy to answer any questions you may have about doing business with National Band & Tag Company.

From the President

At National Band, we have always sought to serve our customers to the best of our ability, by making the highest quality identification products. And in recent years, we have started to focus on not only producing good products, but also building more trust, accuracy, and integrity into our daily operations. I feel so honored to be the current President of such a wonderful company–a company that has been in my family for 5 generations now. I cherish the history and legacy of this place, and have such high hopes for where we can continue to grow.

faye wendel

Faye Haas Wendel, President

When I started at National Band in 1981, I never dreamed to be sitting in the position I hold right now. As the first woman in the family to work here, I had a lot to prove. I haven’t always done everything right in my tenure, but I’ve learned and grown more through being a small business owner than I ever anticipated. It has taught me to be strong, to trust myself, and to not shy away from a challenge. Family business is tough, but one of the most rewarding things I can imagine being a part of.

As we close out our first month of 2016, I want to offer my thanks to the incredible customers who have faithfully come back to us year after year. I want to thank our amazingly hard working employees who have come and gone over the last 113 years–you’ve made this legacy possible. I want to thank my family for constantly seeking improvement and growth for us as individuals and as a company.

Our Vision statement says that “we live for the day when the spirit of our unbreakable family blesses everyone we reach; when trust is built into every solution we produce from concept to delivery; and when National Band and Tag is the #1 choice for identification bands and tags.”

We continue to focus on this vision. And as President, that is my commitment to our customers, vendors, employees, and family this year and always.

Faye Haas Wendel

Champions of Problem Solving

NBT employees“Agile and solution-centered customer service.”  At National Band & Tag Co, we feel so strongly about the importance of customer service we included this statement in our Mission.  Each day, our solution centered customer service team reaches people all over the world, assisting with orders, helping customers choose the appropriate items for a specific purpose, and answering numerous questions regarding the type and use of our products.  They are champions at problem solving and delivering information in a professional and courteous manner.

About a year ago when our company updated its logo, we added a Thank You card to many of our orders.  This was our way of letting the customers know they were receiving the best products from the best team of people, from order entry to manufacturing through shipping.  It is a team approach for each order!  We are always thankful the customer chose our company to meet their tagging needs.

Looking ahead to 2016, we are grateful for each and every customer and look forward to hearing from you again in the new year.  We will continue to provide excellent customer service, making the decision making and order process simple and solution-centered.  If you have not ordered from us yet, look over our website.  We hope to have the product you are looking for and if not, give us a call or e-mail us.  We will work with you hoping to accomplish your tagging needs.

History of NB&T

joseph haas sr.National Band & Tag was founded in 1902 by Joseph Haas, my great-great-grandfather. That’s right, I am one of the 5th generation now working for this incredible company. It has seen many changes in the last 113 years but has been able to remain innovative enough to stay relevant in a constantly changing market.

The company began when Joseph started making poultry leg bands and wing bands for his backyard flock. He and his neighbors all had birds — and they needed a way of identifying who’s was who’s. Since he saw a need, he started up shop in an abandoned barn and placed ads in local magazines. Business grew and thrived. He quickly had to expand, and eventually, his two sons began working with him. From there, other products were developed, including chicken sunglasses, livestock tags, and so much more.

Today, one of our biggest product lines is still poultry bands, but we have continued to stretch our wings. We have hundreds of different products from a tiny shrimp eye band, to sea turtle tags, to heavy-duty wire rope tags, and laser-etched barcoded tags.

Through the years, our customers have been essential to our growth and innovation. When someone calls with a need, we strive to find a solution to their need. This collaboration and synergy with customers is something we deeply value.

As a member of the 5th generation looking forward, I hope we can continue the legacy of what’s been handed down and entrusted. We strive to make high-quality products, at affordable prices, all with outstanding customer service. We hope to continue this reputation and dream up new and innovative solutions that would make great-great-grandpa proud!

Manufacturing Day – Oct. 2nd

mfg dayOctober 2nd is Manufacturing Day! This day is for manufacturers to address common misperceptions about manufacturing, take charge of the public image of manufacturing and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry. National Band & Tag Company has been a U.S. manufacturer for 113 years and almost all of our products are produced here in our factory, located in Newport, Kentucky.

What does it mean to be a manufacturer?

A manufacturer is typically known as “a person or company that makes goods for sale.” Here at NB&T we produce most of our products in-house to order. We don’t have tags sitting on the shelf, we make them to order from coils of materials using punch press machines to cut out the shape of the tag. This process allows us to create custom tags for a low competitive price. This method also means that we run on a production schedule and during the busy season (August – December) orders can take 2-4 weeks to produce and ship out. As our business continues to grow, NB&T has worked with customers to get tags that are not customized shipped out faster (Industrial Quick Ship, Mouse Ear Tag Quick Ship) as well as tags that are laser etched (Stock-N-Lase). We love working with our customers to create new and innovative solutions for all identification purposes. We are proud to be a U.S. manufacturer!

Our Mission Statement:

We are a U.S. manufacturer providing unique and innovative identification solutions for many purpose. Since 1902, we’ve been building our business to SOAR™:

  • Sequential numbering and custom design for accurate identification
  • On-Time and upfront delivery expectations
  • Agile and solution-centered customer service
  • Reinvention in-house, to save you time and money

Are you a manufacturer? What goods do you make? How are you celebrating Manufacturing Day?
