LDAR Tags To Meet EPA Standards
WHAT IS LDAR AND WHY DO WE NEED LDAR PROGRAMS?
Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) focuses on any type of system that may leak volatile compounds or pollutants, such as valves, pumps, pressure relief systems, compressors and connectors. The purpose of a LDAR program is to identify a leaking valve and repair it as quickly as possible. Due to industrial organizations letting pollutants leak into the environment, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) set forth the Clean Air Act of 1963. This federal mandate targets industrial facilities which emit volatile organic compounds and air pollutants.
LDAR techs monitor the levels of exposure the facility produces. When a leak is detected, it must be repaired within a few days. If the leak is not fixed in a timely manner, the organization can be hit with hefty fines and penalties. Metal LDAR Tags are used to identify any valves or pumps that could possibly leak. Each tag has a unique identification number. The ID number correlates to its location in the facility, what compound is leaking, and any other important information.
OTHER BENEFITS OF LDAR TRACKING:
Besides meeting EPA regulations and following the law. Other benefits include reduced product loss, and safety for your employees. Leaks mean you are losing your product. Quickly and efficiently fixing the issue can save money on lost product. Leaking hazardous chemicals will put your workers at risk. Fixing the leak can help ensure a safe work environment and prevent employee injury.
