Radial Text

A unique option that National Band & Tag offers is radial text or text that goes along the curve of our round tags. Radial text is helpful for fitting lots of text on a small tag, and for fitting text along the tag when there is a hole in the middle of the tag. Curved text is popular for survey tags, tree tags, power pole tags, dog tags, promotional keychains, and more. Contact us today for a free quote on your radial text tags!

End Rabies: Collaborate, Vaccinate

World Rabies Day is September 28th! This holiday was created by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) with the goal to end the spread of rabies to humans from dogs. World Rabies Day focuses on increasing community awareness of rabies and its prevention.

2020’s theme is “End Rabies: Collaborate, Vaccinate

End rabies: a reminder that we have 10 years to end human deaths from dog rabies and that we can raise awareness at the global level through the End Rabies Now campaign.

Collaborate: The United Against Rabies coalition was formed and subsequently launched the Global Strategic Plan. We need to continue collaboration at the international, national and local levels to eliminate rabies. Especially keeping in mind that it’s a disease that knows no borders.

Vaccinate: A massive breakthrough was recently made in the rabies world. GAVI, the vaccine alliance, has included rabies into its portfolio of vaccines. This means that with their support, 181,000 more human deaths from rabies can be prevented. We also need to remember to vaccinate dogs to prevent rabies at its source so that we can reach elimination.

National Pet ID Week

April 17th – 23rd is National Pet ID Week!

National Pet ID Week is for seven days starting April 17th. This national week gives pet owners a great opportunity to make sure their pet’s identification is up-to-date. ID tags and microchips give lost pets the best chance possible to be reunited with their owners.

It is estimated that one in three pets will go missing at some point in their life. According to the ASPCA, “Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. About 710,000 animals who enter shelters as strays are returned to their owners.”

How to Observe National Pet ID Week

Vets recommend every pet owner prepare for a lost pet. They say pet identification is a crucial step to keep pets safe. Even the most well-behaved cats and dogs can get lost, runoff unexpectedly or get separated from their owners.  Two popular ways to ID your pet, are to use a collar with a tag, and a microchip. Other identification methods include tattooing, QR Code Tags, GPS Collars, etc.

Collar tags are historically the most common, and the most recommended. Microchips are meant to be another level of protection, not a substitute. Pet owners can get personalized tags at local pet stores or online. This week, make sure your pet’s tags are correct and have the most up-to-date information on them. Also, check to make sure the information is readable and hasn’t been scratched or worn away. If you have “chipped” your pet with a microchip, this week is a good time to see that it is working and you are prepared to use it. Did you register your microchip? Do you have the microchip brand, the 1-800 number of the company, and the microchip number of your pet in an easily accessible place? These are all great questions to ask yourself, and ways to celebrate National Pet ID Week!

Use #NationalPetIDWeek and #PetIdWeek on social media to participate in the discussion

Every Day is Tag Day™

Here at National Band & Tag Company, we like to think that Every Day is Tag Day™!  This day was created by the American Humane Society and is celebrated on the first Saturday in April. Every Day is Tag Day™ unites thousands of animal control agencies, veterinarians, and humane organizations with the goal of urging pet owners to equip their pets with ID tags and/or microchips. Tags and microchips help maximize the chance of a lost pet returning home safely.

How to participate in Every Day is Tag Day™:
  • Make sure your pet always wears a collar with a current ID tag, rabies tag, and city/county license.
  • Include a phone number on their ID tag.
  • Keep your pet’s licenses, ID tag, and microchip current. Make sure to update the tag if you change your address or phone number.
  • Remember that even indoor pets need tags. Many indoor pets can escape and end up in the shelter.
  • If you have a Paw Finders rabies tag, ensure your tag is registered and contact info is up-to-date.

You can order a personal ID tag at a local pet store kiosk, or online. You will receive a Rabies Tag from your veterinarian when your pet receives a rabies vaccination. (Tell your veterinarian about our new Paw Finders rabies tags! A rabies tag and lost pet recovery system, all in one tag). City/County license tags are usually obtained through the county clerk’s office or animal control. Check for your local pet licensing requirements online. National Band & Tag mass produces blank tags for kiosks, and for individuals to personalize and re-sell. We also produce rabies tags for veterinarians and  license tags for cities and counties.

Memorial Bird Bands

A great way to memorialize bird hunters who are no longer with us is with Memorial Bird Bands.

Customers use our Memorial Bird Bands as a memento to hand out to friends and family at the funeral. Some people will then put the bird band on their lanyard or keychain so that they can carry it around with them every day as a remembrance of their loved one. Hunting buddies or hunt clubs may want to pass out the bands amongst its members in honor of the deceased. Some will raffle off the memorial bands to help raise money for the family. We even had one customer put the memorial bands in honor of her son on ducks, so duck hunters would call for years saying they got one of the banded birds in tribute of her son.

Here are some of the ways our customers have customized their Memorial Bird Bands:

Stainless Steel Cremation Tags: Identification for peace of mind

Did you know that 53% of Americans were cremated in 2018 instead of buried? Or that pet cremation is the largest it has even been among Millenials and Gen Z pet owners according to Forbes? As more humans and pets use cremation, proper identification will become even more important. Tags with unique identification numbers ensure that loved ones receive the correct remains. According to the Cremation Association of North America (CANA), Washington, Nevada, and Oregon are the top 3 states with the highest cremation rates.

Cremation Tags with unique ID number

As stated by the International Cemetery, Cremation & Funeral Association (ICCFA) Identification Guidelines, “Funeral homes should implement a reliable system for the identification of human remains to give consumers assurance that safeguards are in place to minimize the incidence of misidentification. Further, in the case of a disinterment, or if a flood, earthquake, or other natural disaster disturb the place of interment, the identification and reinterment of the human remains would be facilitated by this system.”

National Band & Tag offers custom stamped stainless steel cremation tags that can have your crematory name, a unique ID number, and any other information you need on them. Cremation ovens get up to 1400 – 1800°F  degrees in order to break down the bone. But 304 stainless steel has a melting point of 2000+°F. This allows the tag to go into the oven with the remains and stay with them through the whole process. Thus, meeting the ICCFA’s guidelines as listed above. NB&T cremation tags (ID Discs), work for both human or pet cremations.

MFG DAY 2019

This Friday, October 4th is MFG Day (Manufacturing Day)! This day helps show the reality of modern manufacturing careers and connect the future workforce with manufacturing jobs.

National Band & Tag supports MFG Day as a manufacturer and family-owned business. One of our values is planning success for generations to come. This means encouraging future generations to want to work in manufacturing so that NB&T can continue forever. Some people may not fully understand the benefits of manufacturing companies, or still, consider them to be boring assembly lines, but that isn’t necessarily true anymore. In Thomas Net’s blog, “7 Reasons It’s Great to Work in Manufacturing“, they list the top 3 reasons as contributing to the economy, being on the cutting edge of technology, and exciting sectors of work.

Laser Etched Brass Tags: Frosted vs Non-Frosted

National Band & Tag has a new laser machine that now allows us to successfully laser etch on brass tags. When placing your laser etched brass tag order, you now have the choice of a “frosted” surface. “Frosting” means removing the shine that brass has, to make it easier to read. The examples below on the left with a more yellow look are frosted, and the darker brown samples are regular brass. Brass is hard to take a picture of because of how shiny the material is. The shine will not work in certain environments, so for an additional charge, we can remove it for you. This allows you to have all the benefits of brass material, without the shine.

It’s time to order your 2020 Rabies Tags

The 2020 style of the year rabies tag is the Red Heart.

As we get ready to enter our Rabies Tag season (September – December), our busiest time of the year, we urge all our veterinarian customers to order as early as possible for a quicker turnaround time. The NASPHV recommended tag style of the year is #198 Red Heart.

Why purchase from National Band & Tag?
  • Quick turnaround times
  • Low-cost leader
  • Manufactured in America
  • Multiple shapes and sizes available to fit both cats and dogs
  • Your information, custom stamped to meet your rabies vaccination needs
  • Both 1-year and 3-year rabies tags are available
Here are a few tips to help with your 2020 Red Heart order:
  1. Order enough tags. If you are on the fence about how many tags to order, we always recommend over-ordering. To re-order more tags, it will cost more time and money than if you order 100 more tags than normal the first time. If there are extra tags at the end of the year, you can recycle aluminum tags.
  2. Special orders take more time. If you are ordering something other than stamped tags with standard packing, additional time will be added on to produce your order. This can really affect customers who want to order paint-filled tags that are flat packed in November and December.
  3. Don’t forget to pay for your order. All orders must be paid for before the tags will be produced. (Unless you have an open account). Just call in with your quote number and credit card to pay, mail a check, or pay online.
  4. Review your acknowledgment. After your sales representative has entered your order they will send you an acknowledgment (receipt), please review it to make sure the stamping, quantity, style, color, etc. is correct. Your estimated shipping date will also be on your acknowledgment.

If you have any questions or want to check the status of your order, give us a call at 859-261-2035.

Saltwater and Marina Environment Stainless Steel Tags

Stainless steel tags are recommended wherever corrosion is a serious problem, such as salt-water environments, marinas, boat docks, etc. 316 stainless steel, also known as marine grade, is probably the most common grade of stainless steel used in marine applications. It has more molybdenum than other austenitic stainless steels which helps it to resist pitting and other corrosive effects of salt water.

National Band & Tag can laser etch 316 stainless steel tags which will stand up in this environment. The engraving will hold up just as long as the tags will.

Laser Etching, Laser Marking, Stamping, Embossing and Ink Jet

National Band & Tag offers a variety of solutions for creating a custom tag that meets your identification needs and environment. Different engraving and marking options on different materials can make the difference in how long a tag will last in specific environments.

Laser Etching: Available on metal tags only. Material is physically etched with the laser beam into the surface of the material, deep enough that you can feel it with your finger nail. On anodized and colored aluminum, the metal with change color from the base color to white, thus providing a high contrast character. Laser etching on heavy duty materials such as stainless steel and UV stable aluminum is great for harsh environments such as extreme heat or cold, chemicals, frequently cleaned and outdoors. Laser etching is an additional charge, call for quote.

Laser Marking: Available on plastic tags only. The characters are marked onto the surface of the material using an oxidation process which results is a bold contrasting character. The characters are dark gray, almost black in color. Laser marking is also referred to as laser coloration or laser dark marking. Plastic tags are great for indoor use or outdoor use in less harsh environments. Laser marking is an additional charge, call for quote.

Stamping: Available on metal tags only. Stamping (also known as pressing) is the process the letters/numberings being pressed into the material. Stamped tags can be paint filled with black or white paint (shown below) to create a contrasting look. Stamped tags are very durable on all materials and can be used in many different environments. Stamping price varies by product, but are the most cost efficient. See website for details.

Embossing: Available on limited styles of metal tags only. Embossing is when the letters and numbering is raised above the metal tag or band. Embossed tags are durable yet flexible. Since the letters are raised up, there is no chance of the print getting worn off.  Embossing is available on some light gauge tags and some styles of leg bands for poultry. Embossing prices vary by product, see website for details.

Fusion Marked: Available on wing bands. This process creates a highly contrasting mark with dark bold characters on the surface of the tag. See website for pricing.

Can I see some Pet ID?

It’s National Pet ID Week (April 16 – 23)! As a manufacturer of dog and cat rabies tags and license tags, we are proud promoters of National Pet ID Week! This week is used to make sure every pet’s identification tags and microchips are up to date.

bone tag pet id week

Some pet owners say their dog doesn’t wear an ID tag because their dog is always on a leash. Or, that their cat is an indoor cat, so they don’t even put a collar on them. A pet can always get lost, and an ID tag needs to be in place in case your pet makes an escape. Leashes can break, doors get left open, and natural disasters can happen. It’s better to be prepared when it comes to getting your pet returned to you, and something as simple as an ID tag is an easy solution to get behind. In ASPCA research, owners who’d lost a pet were asked if they ever thought they’d lose a pet in the way they did, and the majority said no, they never imagined that would happen to them.

If your pet does wear their ID tags, take a moment to make sure that information is still legible and up to date.  Worn and damaged tags, or tags with incorrect contact information won’t help when someone is trying to contact you to return your pet.

Celebrate Pet ID Week with us by sharing your pictures below of your pet wearing their ID tags!
