2018 World Rabies Day

world rabies day 2018Thursday September 28th is World Rabies Day! Created and coordinated annually by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC), World Rabies Day focuses on rabies endemic countries to increase community awareness of the disease and its prevention.

This year’s theme is Zero by 30, in honor of the goal of zero human deaths from canine rabies by 2030. This goal was agreed upon at the global conference on rabies elimination in 2015, by the World Health Organization, World Organization for Animal Health, UN Food and Agriculture Organization and GARC.

2018’s recommended rabies tag style of the year from NASPHV is the style #228 Orange Oval. 2017’s style is the blue rosette, if you see a dog wearing a blue rosette tag on their collar then you know they are up to date on their rabies shots.

It’s time to order your 2018 Rabies Tags!

As we get ready to enter our Rabies Tag season (August – December), our busiest time of the year, we urge all our veterinarian customers to order as early as possible for a quicker turnaround time. The NASPHV recommended style of the year is the style #228 Orange Oval.

Here are a few tips to help with your 2018 Orange Oval Rabies Tag Order:

  1. Order enough tags. If you are on the fence about how many tags to order, we always recommend over-ordering. If you must re-order more tags, it will cost more time and money than if you order 100 more tags than normal the first time. If you have extra tags at the end of the year, you can recycle aluminum tags.
  2. Special orders take more time. If you are ordering something other than stamped tags with standard packing, don’t forget to account for additional weeks onto the time it will take to produce your order. This can really affect customers who want to order paint filled tags that are flat packed in November and December.
  3. Don’t forget to pay for your order. All orders must be paid for before the tags will be produced. (Unless you have a Net 30 account). Just call in with your quote number and credit card to pay, or mail a check.
  4. Review your acknowledgement. After your sales representative has entered your order they will send you an acknowledgement (receipt), please review it to make sure the stamping, quantity, style, color etc. is correct. Your estimated shipping date will also be on your acknowledgement.

1 Year vs. 3 Year Rabies Tags

3 Year Rabies Vaccination Tag

As a vet you have the option of a 1 or 3 year rabies vaccine, but you need the appropriate tag to match!

If you are choosing to do a 1 year rabies tag, regular .050 aluminum will work. But, if you are looking to do a 3 year rabies tag, you need something durable to last longer on an animal.

For 3 year rabies tags we recommend .064 aluminum, which is thicker–or a stainless steel tag. There are only select colors available for .064 aluminum versus the .050 aluminum rabies tags, so please call for availability.

World Rabies Day – Educate, Vaccinate, Eliminate

world rabies dayToday, September 28, 2016 marks the 10th annual World Rabies Day celebration! This day is used to educate people on the effects of rabies, so that more people get their pets vaccinated and thus help in the battle to eliminate rabies.

The Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC), World Health Organization (WHO), World Veterinary Association and the World Animal Protection Organization currently have a new campaign called “End Rabies Now” which is calling for an end to human deaths from dog-transmitted rabies by 2030.

“It is estimated that around 59,000 people die every single year from rabies – that’s a staggering 885,000 lives lost between now and the end of 2030. Victims are usually in impoverished rural areas in Africa and Asia. Most have limited access to healthcare, and treatment can be too expensive. The campaign will raise awareness in Europe and the United States, where canine rabies has largely been eliminated in most countries in the region, in order to ensure that control programs are prioritized within international development spending.”

Which packaging is best for you?

Standard Packing is 100 tags to a wire, 500 to a box. This allows you to package the tags yourself in-house, or just take them off the wire as needed.

Strip-Pak is 1 tag and 1 attachment in a plastic bag. Bags are perforated on a continuous strip. This makes it easy to rip a bag off when you need it to give to a customer.

What Colors of Aluminum Do We Have?

One question that we receive at National Band & Tag often is about our colored aluminum and what shade it is. You’ll see a chart of the colors we offer below, however, keep in mind that different computers and devices show colors differently. This means a blue tag on your smart phone might look a different shade of blue on your desktop computer.

Also, when we purchase our material, there is a certain amount of shade variation from one order to another. One batch of red may not be the same shade of red as another. It usually stays within a certain color range, but we cannot guarantee that the red tag your received last year will be the same exact red you get this year.

The most accurate way to see a color is to request free samples of the styles you are interested in. Our free samples come from overruns of current orders so it is coming from our current material stock. Colors can vary by products as well and by what we have in stock. Please contact a sales representative at 859-261-2035 to find out what colors are available or what can be ordered.

National Cat Day

national-cat-dayOn October 29, we celebrate a day dedicated to one of the most popular American owned household pets. You guessed it; National Cat Day! Approximately 30-35% of American households own a cat, that’s approximately 70-75 million cats.

On your cat’s day, show them you love them and care for them.

World Rabies Awareness Day

IMG_9629In case you didn’t know, this coming Monday is World Rabies Awareness Day. Rabies is a virus that attacks the central nervous system of mammals and is transmitted through the bite of an infected animal. This virus is deadly, but luckily there is a fast-acting cure.  The number of rabies cases has gone down as animal vaccination has increased, however, rabies is still deadly and people should exercise caution around animals exhibiting abnormal behavior.

So, what are National Band and Tag’s association with rabies vaccinations?

We manufacture Rabies Vaccination Tags for many veterinary offices. Every time your cat or dog gets a rabies vaccination, they must be wearing the updated vaccination tag alongside their pet license and name tag. Without this tag, it can cost you if your pet gets lost. Keep your pets safe from rabies by keeping them up to date with their vaccinations. Celebrate “World Rabies Day” with National Band & Tag

World Rabies Day is approaching! September 28th is the day that brings awareness to rabies worldwide.  It is estimated that over 40,000 people in the US are exposed to rabies each year.  This exposure could come from your own dog or cat or after your dog or cat had an encounter with a raccoon, skunk, fox or a bat that has rabies.  People have associated rabies as an issue for dogs, but in 2009 there were 3 times more cat rabies cases reported than dogs, 81 to 300.  Rabies as a global issue affects 55,000 people and the cost associated with rabies is estimated to be more than $300 million in the US alone.

So, protect your family and pets and remember to get your dog and cat their rabies vaccination shot.  And don’t forget to change the tag on their collar.  The shape and color of the recommended tag changes every year.  There are 4 shapes and colors that are recommend by NASPHV and the shape for 2016 is the red heart.  The shape for 2015 was the green bell.  These shapes and colors are recommended for the 1 year vaccination.  By having the proper tag on, health officials will be able to determine if your animal is up to date with their vaccination.  This might just help keep your dog or cat alive.

How much do you love your pet?

Happy Pet Appreciation Week! Every year the first full week of June is Pet Appreciation Week (June 7-13, 2015) dedicated to your beloved pets! A pet is so much more than just an animal, they are a symbol of companionship, love and happiness. Some people even consider their pet to be a family member! So make sure to give your pet extra attention this week while also following some National Band & Tag tips for caring for your dog!

Tip #1.) Get your pet their license.

Did you know, it is the law to have your pet licensed? Many states require you to renew their license annually! Dog licenses on average cost $10-$20 dollars which is less than the fine you will pay if your dog is caught without a license. Other benefits include improving chances of animals being returned if lost and license fees support local animal shelters.

Tip #2.) Get your pet up to date on their rabies vaccination.

Depending on what state you live in, your pet may receive annual rabies vaccinations or receive them every three years. Rabies is a severe viral disease of the central nervous system that can be passed by salvia. The most common method of transfer is an infected wild animal such as a bat, fox, raccoon, or skunk biting your pet and infecting them. Rabies vaccinations are also required by law in all states.

Tip#3.) Get your pet a name tag.

This is simply a tag with your pet’s name on one side and your contact information on the back so if your pet is found they can be easily and quickly returned to you!

In all, your pet should have 3 tags on them at all times, pet license tag, rabies vaccination tag and name tag. This will help ensure that if they get lost they will be returned to you while also following all the laws!
