2018 World Rabies Day
Thursday September 28th is World Rabies Day! Created and coordinated annually by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC), World Rabies Day focuses on rabies endemic countries to increase community awareness of the disease and its prevention.
This year’s theme is Zero by 30, in honor of the goal of zero human deaths from canine rabies by 2030. This goal was agreed upon at the global conference on rabies elimination in 2015, by the World Health Organization, World Organization for Animal Health, UN Food and Agriculture Organization and GARC.
2018’s recommended rabies tag style of the year from NASPHV is the style #228 Orange Oval. 2017’s style is the blue rosette, if you see a dog wearing a blue rosette tag on their collar then you know they are up to date on their rabies shots.
Government should extend vaccination against rabies in canines nearer to the people if we are to achieve the zero 30.
